Happy Thursday, everyone!
Today we’re celebrating National Intern Day, a holiday created by WayUp! This is an annual holiday celebrated across the US, by employers looking to recognize their interns!
As the only non-profit organization in the U.S. dedicated to ending unpaid internships across all sectors, this is a day which is incredibly important to us. Not only do we get to recognize our amazing POI interns, it’s also a reminder of the interns around the country who continue to need our help.
Because even as much as today is a celebration, it’s also a reminder:
Today’s college graduates or soon-to-be college graduates have been through almost three years of a global pandemic. They’ve had to deal with lockdowns, the sharpest recession that we’ve seen since the Great Depression, and it’s putting a strain on their futures.
So much of a person’s young money is now having to stretch in more directions than ever before, and that’s why it’s more important than ever to pay our interns. They deserve fair compensation for an honest day’s work.
While we’ve had a number of accomplishments this year to help bring equity in this ever-changing landscape, here are some of our plans and projects for the weeks and months ahead, to help further even the playing field:
