We, 200+ White House interns from the past five presidential administrations (i.e., Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama, and Trump) and Pay Our Interns, hereby ask the incoming Biden Administration to pay future White House interns.
Our experiences in the White House provided us with immense opportunities, and we had the honor of witnessing history in the making. Because of those experiences, a myriad of doors have opened for us. We are now elected officials, CEOs, public servants, advocates, and more.
Historically, the White House (WH) internship program has been unpaid under both parties. Since it’s in DC, one of the most expensive cities in the country, the experience is out of reach for many Americans. As a result, low-income working learners—who are frequently students of color—must choose: miss out or take on the undue financial burden to gain valuable experience.
Today, we ask President-Elect Biden to “build back better” by beginning to pay their WH interns which will ensure this program is accessible to all.
